CPN UML general Madhav Kumar Nepal has said his party committed a mistake by joining the Sher Bahadur Deuba-led coalition government and that the party must self-examine its mistake.
Presenting a political report at the Central Committee (CC) meeting that kicked off Monday, Nepal added the then ruling coalition failed due to the “palace’s conspiracy, Deuba’s lack of political willingness, the Maoists’ refusal to hold peace parleys and the four agitating parties’ street protests.”
The report also says that Deuba government showed tendency to appease the palace, army and foreigners to extend its hold on power but failed to deliver on its promises.
“Our party in that government could not deliver despite our good intentions. There were so many factors that tied our hands while making decisions,” Nepal’s 27-page political report stated. The ninth CC meeting began in the capital on Monday.
The CPN- UML, last year in June, had joined the Deuba led government pulling out of the five-party alliance’s street protests against ‘regression’. The remaining parties, however, continued their protests.
The report also highlighted the current political and economic situation, the royal takeover of February 1 and the unfolding incidents, the background of ‘regression’, formation of the seven-party alliance and the need for peace talks with the Maoists. If the King is not ready to remain under the constitution, the parties will have to demand a republican set up, the report said.
Discussion on the report continued today as well.
