The Japanese government has announced a grant assistance of over $60 million to the government of Nepal for the construction of New Kawasoti Sub-station this fiscal year.

Ambassador of Japan to Nepal Tsutomu Hiraoka and Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Vidyadhar Mallik signed the agreement paper and exchanged notes on behalf of their respective governments, a press release issued by the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu said Friday.
The grant is intended to procure the products and services necessary for the construction of New Kawasoti Sub-station in order to provide a reliable electricity supply to the population of the eastern part of Nawalparasi district and to meet the increasing electricity demand as well as to reduce the system loss in the target area, the release said.
After the completion of the project, it is expected that a total population of 190,000 in eastern Nawalparasi will directly benefit from the New Kawasoti Sub-station.
On the occasion, ambassador Hiraoka expressed hope that this project would prove to be yet another milestone in strengthening the existing friendly and cordial relationship between Japan and Nepal.
