Japan provides assistance of 8.1 million dollars for radio broadcast
The Japanese government has pledged an assistance of 8.1 million US dollars for radio broadcast to Nepal.
Visiting senior Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Yasuhisa Shiozaki, who arrived Kathmandu on Friday announced this and also added that his country was willing to provide more assistance for peace and democracy in Nepal.
He said this after meeting the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Foreign Affairs KP Oli at Shital Niwas.
“We have discussed about Nepal in the United Nations and the UN team is here to assess the situation. We will discuss in UN on how to help Nepal after the team prepares its report, but the ownership of the peace process should be given to Nepali people,” said Shiozaki.
When asked whether Japan can contribute in rehabilitation of rebels’ armies and in arms management, he said that it depends on how the seven party alliance government decides the framework for arms control and also on what role the UN takes.
Responding to another query about the Japanese stand on monarchy and democracy, he said that the governance system should be decided by the people of a country and in this case, the people of Nepal should decide what kind of system they want to have and added that people from outside cannot decide what kind system Nepal should have.
Earlier in the afternoon, Shiozaki met Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and Speaker Subas Nemwang and discussed the ongoing peace process in Nepal.
