Japan, Norway give Nepal aid

Japan Friday gave Nepal a grant of 4.23 billion yens equivalent to Rs.2.64 billion to construct a highway and build storage facilities for iodized salt, separate announcements said.

Japan pledged 3.3 billion yens for the construction of the Sindhuli Bazar – Khurkot section of the Kathmandu Sindhuli highway. Nepal’s biggest aid donor set aside another 916 million yens for the construction of storage facilities for iodized salt in Birgunj, Bhairawan, Nepalgung and Dhangadi.

Norway Friday pledged a grant equivalent to Rs.1860.49 million for the implementation of the Melunchi water project to supply piped water for thirsty Kathmanduites, a Finance Ministry announcement said.
