The government of Japan has extended assistance of USD 91,751 (Rs.6,445,508) for construction of a female hostel in Kanya (Girl’s) Campus in Pokhara under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.

A press statement issued by the Japanese Embassy in Kathmandu said, Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Tsutomu Hiraoka, inaugurated and handed over Sakura Dormitory, Girl’s Hostel to Kanya (Girl’s) Campus, Pokhara amidst a function on Sunday.
“The 2-storey hostel building with 10 rooms, accommodating 20 students, will provide accommodation facilities for girl students pursuing studies in teachers training courses from the Mid-Western and Far-Western Development Regions,” the statement said.
“Out of the total project cost of approximately Rs.15,327,000, Kanya (Girl’s) Campus contributed up to 21% of the cost and the Japan-Nepal Female Education Association (JNFEA) also contributed approximately 37% of the total cost,” the statement adds.
Speaking at the inaugural and hand over ceremony, Japanese Ambassador to Nepal, Hiraoka, stressed the need for promoting girls education for the economic and social development of Nepal.
The Japanese envoy further expressed his hope that the project will signify the wishes of the Government of Japan and its people for the promotion of the well being of the Nepalese people, symbolizing a long-lasting relationship of friendship and cooperation between Japan and Nepal at the people’s level.
