Int’l Nepali poetry fest in US from June

Kathmandu, May 23: An International Nepali poetry festival is to be organised in Atlanta Georgia of the United States on the occasion of the Y2K conference to be held there from June 1 to 3.

In the competition to be held with the initiative of the Nepalis living in the USA, three best poems will be given 500 dollars each along with a certificate.

The deadline for sending poems is June 5.

Meanwhile in Lalitpur, ninety-year old Mrs Bhakta Kumari Ghale launched a book entitled “Uhile Bajeko Palama” or during the days of grandpas, a scripted version of the weekly programme by the same name transmitted by Radio Sagarmatha every Monday evening, here recently.

The book published by the Panos South Asia Publications contains the feelings and experiences of the 52 elderly people.

Ninety-four year old Siddhigopal Vaidya, Mrs Ghale, senior journalists Bhairab Risal, executive director of Radio Nepal Pratik Bhandari and director of the Panos South Asia Kunda Dixit and others had spoken about the book at the function chaired by 84-year old Shesh Raj Dali.

Likewise in Biratnagar, Nepali Sahitya Samiti, Biratnagar organised a symposium on May 20 to review the book entitled “Byakti Abhibyakti” written by critic and liguist Dr. Ganesh Bhandari.

Critic Dr. Narendra Chapagain, academician and critic Dirgha Raj Subedi and Associate Professors Ramnath Baral and Kumar Prasad Koirala had commented on the book written by Dr. Bhandari.

Chief guest Radha Prasad Ghimire, Mayor of Biratnagar Sub-Municipal Corporation Ramesh Chandra Paudel, senior journalist Koshraj Regmi, Devi Panthi and Associate Professor Govinda Nepal lauded the contributions made by Dr. Bhandari through his literary works.

The symposium was chaired by chairman of the Nepali Sahitya Samiti Dr. Sushila Bhandari.

Likewise in Kapilvastu, president of the Reyukai Nepal, Taulihawa Arjun Bahadur Singh gave away prizes and certificates to the winners of a district level essay competition organised by Reyukai Nepal, Taulihawa on the theme “Importance of Reyukai education for world peace” to mark the 2544th birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha here the otherday.

Gopal Prasad Shrestha, Dhrubaraj Bhandari and Atule Bhardwaj were declared first, second and third respectively in the district level essay competition.

Altogether 14 persons had taken part in the competition.

Meanwhile, the four-month leather goods skill promotion training jointly organised by the cottage and small industry office, Kapilvastu and the Siddartha Club at Banganga Village Development Committee concluded.

Chairman of the DDC Naresh Sharma, giving away certificates to the participants of the training programme, stressed the need to make proper use of the knowledge gained from the training organised with the cooperation of the government.

Altogether 18 persons including two men had taken part in the training.
