Coordinator of the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee Laxman Prasad Aryal has said that efforts would be made in the interim Constitution to give permanency to institutionalising the main spirit, norms and achievements of the people’s movement.

Speaking at a discussion programme in the capital on Saturday, he said the interim Constitution would be drafted as such to rest state and sovereign rights on the people.

The Constitution of the Kingdom of Nepal-1990 had clearly outlined that the source of power rests on the people. However, the political parties and leaders made a maximum out of it. As a result, the new Constitution will make sure that such a situation is not repeated.

Claiming that the Interim Constitution and the Constituent Assembly would put an end to the tradition of resting power on the rulers, Aryal said the Committee would focus on empowering the powerless people.

Another members of the committee, Sindhunath Pyakurel, said the Interim Constitution would carry the people’s aspiration and be suitable to the Nepali soil.
