Speaking at a programme in the capital, Situala said promulgation of the interim constitution was delayed as the United Nations monitoring team could not arrive here on the prescheduled time.
Since the arms management is set to start very soon the interim statute will be issued within a week, he said. Saying that interim constitution is necessary to step up preparations for constituent assembly election, the Home Minister expressed confidence that the polls would be held in the scheduled time, mid-June.
Situala’s statement came a day after Maoist supremo Prachanda, who was in Dolakha, warned that the Maoists would launch a massive agitation if the interim constitution, which was finalised on December 16, is not issued by the end of Poush (mid-January).
Chief Election Commissioner Bhoj Raj Pokhrel also said yesterday that the Election Commission had been facing difficulties in making smooth preparations for the CA polls in the absence of interim constitution.
