A senior minister and one of the members of the government’s talks team Pradip Gyawali has said that the government is holding unofficial talks with the Maoists before going for another round of formal talks.
Speaking at a programme in the capital on Tuesday, Minister Gyawali said, “We are busy holding informal talks with the Maoists. It develops the situation for the formal round of dialogue. It is, however, too early to give you the date for the next talks.”
Stating that the success of the peace talks now depend on the Maoists’ activities, Minister Gyawali said, “The ball is now in the Maoist’s court as the government has fulfilled all its responsibilities.“
Stating that continuing the parliament session for an indefinite period is against the sprit of the people’s movement, he said that both sides agreed to dissolve the parliament by finding some alternative mechanism during the high level talks between the top leaders of the ruling alliance and the Maoists.
Speaking at the same programme, General Secretary of CPN-ML CP Mainali said that the Maoists should make their views clear about arms management and people’s army to make the ongoing talks successful.
