Kathmandu, Jan. 23 The industrialists and traders here today, have strongly demanded that the government take prompt action so as to guarantee security to save industries from further negative impacts. “If it is not improved in time,” they have warned, “it will have serious effects in the country’s economic health.”

At a discussion programme, organised by the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry(FNCCI) today, they alleged that the government is turning a deaf ear to the serious issue of maintaining security at places where industries are located. They pointed out on the need to assure security to foreign investment and industrial growth.

Speaking on the occasion, President of FNCCI Pradip Kumar Shrestha urged the government to take immediate action by gearing up security. “The industries in the country, whether big or small, are under threat because of insecurity. Hence, the concerned authorities should take this into consideration otherwise,” he said, “it will create serious problem for the country’s economy.”

Despite the suggestions given by FNCCI regarding security, the government has done nothing he said and added that the gathering of industrialists and traders would help chalk out strategies to overcome the problems. Frequent bandhs, protest programmes, and other violent activities have badly affected the country’s industrial environment. The need arises to tackle the problem urgently, he added.

Shrestha also appealed for all to join hands to find the solutions to the problems confronting the industrialists and traders.

Padma Jyoti, a former president of the FNCCI strongly pointed out the need to assure safety in industrial areas as well as in other places.

Rajendra Khetan, third vice president of the FNCCI pointed out the need for the amendments in some Acts related to security.

Other industrialists and traders from different parts of the country expressed their views regarding the issue.
