The Indrajatra Festival is being observed today (Bhadra Shukla Chaturdashi, the 14th day of the waxing moon of the Nepali month of Bhadra) by performing worship of Lord Indra, the God of rain and productivity.
On this occasion, the chariot of the Living Goddess Kumari along with Sri Ganesh and Sri Bhairav are exhibited at Basantapur of Kathmandu.
Similarly, devotees light lamps and dance overnight at Indrasthan of Dahachok, western suburb of Kathmandu, and take a holy dip at Indra Daha (pond).
Chariot pulling and puja of Lord Indra as well as enactment of 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu – in front of Kumarighar – are also carried out for eight days.
