Indian ambassador Shiv Shankar Mukherjee met with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at the latter’s residence at Baluwatar on Saturday and discussed the recent political developments in Nepal.
The meeting was focussed on the ongoing peace talks between the ruling seven-party alliance and the Maoists, specially the issue of arms management, it is learnt.
During the hour-long meeting, the two also discussed the agendas of Deputy Prime Minister K.P Sharma’s visit to New Delhi from Sunday.
Envoy Mukherjee has already held a series of meetings with Nepali political leaders to discuss the Nepal’s peace process. He had a crucial meeting with Maoist chairman Prachanda at the Indian Embassy four days earlier.
After a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Amik Sherchan yesterday, Mukherjee said that India was happy with the way peace talks were progressing in Nepal. He also said the system of arms management as such is not an important issue, but India believed that Nepali people should not be kept under the shadow of weapons for a long time.
