Indian ambassador to Nepal, Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, met with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala at the latter’s residence at Baluwatar Sunday.

During the meeting that lasted for nearly an hour, the current political situation in Nepal and matters of bilateral concerns were discussed, a source said.

Leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sitaram Yechury, who is currently in Nepal, was also present during the meeting.

Yechury had conferred with Koirala hours after his arrival in Kathmandu on Friday and conveyed the ‘wishes’ of the Indian government and the people of India.

He had discussed Nepal’s political scenario with Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and defence minister Pranab Mukherjee ahead of his tour to Nepal.

US ambassador to Nepal, James F Moriarty, had also met with PM Koirala on Saturday.

Moriarty told reporters after the meeting that the US government would stop its assistance to Nepal should there be an interim government inclusive of Maoists before the latter fully renounce violence.
