Indian assistance to fight rebels

In what is seen as an important development, a senior Indian official has said his government has provided assistance as required by the Nepal government in dealing with the challenges posed by the Maoist insurgency.

Replying a question at the Rajya Sabha—upper house of the Indian parliament—in New Delhi Thursday, Minister of State for External Affairsm E. Ahamed, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has been deployed along the India-Nepal border to strengthen security in the border areas. A network of Institutional dialogue mechanisms with the Government of Nepal has been evolved to discuss cross-border security issues, the minister said, according to the press information bureau of India. He did not provide details.
