Nepal’s southern neighbour, India has expressed serious concern over the termination of truce by the Maoists and termed the incident as “unfortunate.”

Stating that the incident has disappointed India, Navtej Sarna– a foreign ministry spokesman in New Delhi — termed it as an “unfortunate decision,” according to reports.

“We have consistently called upon the Maoists to abandon violence, accept the discipline of multi-party democracy, and work for a political settlement that contributes to the political stability and economic prosperity of Nepal,” he added.

The Maoists called off their unilateral ceasefire declared four months ago on Monday saying that they had been compelled to break off the ceasefire as the government continued its military operation against them even during the period of unilateral ceasefire.
