India pledges assistance worth over Rs eight billion for Nepal

The Indian government has agreed to provide assistance of Rs 8.05 billion to assist Nepal in infrastructure projects for the Terai area.

A press statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu said, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed on Tuesday between the Embassy of India and the Government of Nepal.

“This involves the strengthening of roads and building other projects in the Terai belt that will have far-reaching impact on the entire economy of the region,” the statement added.

During Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala’s last visit to India, the Indian government expressed commitment to provide assistance to Nepal to accelerate economic recovery.
