Indian envoy to Nepal Shiv Shankar Mukherjee and Pranay Verma Counsellor (Economic Cooperation) jointly laid the foundation stone for construction of campus building of Galyang Multiple Campus in Galyang Bazaar, Syangja Thursday .
Representatives of District Development Committee (DDC) and local administration of Syangja, Members of Parliament from the district, community leaders, ex-servicemen of the Indian Army and people from the area attended the function.
This is the first educational project undertaken by India in Syangja as part of the Small Development Projects Scheme of the India-Nepal Economic Cooperation Programme. Under this project, for which a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between India and Nepal on October 31, India is providing a cooperation grant of over Rs. 17 million to Syangja DDC for the construction of the campus building and provision of furniture. The project will be implemented by the DDC while an Oversight Committee consisting of the DDC, campus management and District Education officer will monitor the project
Addressing the function, Verma stressed the importance of development of educational infrastructure, both at grassroots as well as for higher education for Nepal’s socio-economic development. He expressed the hope that the new infrastructure of the campus would make a significant contribution in that direction and lead to visible improvement in the socio-economic condition of the people of Syangja and adjoining districts.
