Kathmandu, May 21: Indian Foreign Secretary Lalit Mansingh returned home on completion of a three-day official visit to the Kingdom of Nepal today.
He was seen off at Tribhuvan International Airport by Foreign Secretary Narayan Shumsher Thapa.
Talking to journalists prior to his departure, Indian Foreign Secretary Mr. Singh said the present secretary level bilateral talks which took place after three years and in accordance with the agreement reached during Foreign Minister Chakra Prasad Bastola’s recent visit to India to revive regular discussions at the foreign secretary level between the two countries, covered every aspect of bilateral relationship.
He said discussions were also held on matters relating to cooperation projects, issue of law and order, and exchange of high level visits between the two countries in the coming days.
Foreign Secretary Singh also said that India is eagerly awaiting Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala’s forthcoming visit to India.
Stating that Nepal is an important neighbour of India, Mr. Singh said the two countries enjoy good friendship and the Himalayas stand as the symbol of friendship between the two countries.
Responding to a query, the Indian Foreign Secretary said law and order is a matter of concern for both the countries and that both of them have reiterated their commitment not to allow their respective territories to be used against each other.
Kalapani, the 1950 treaty and other issues were also discussed and such discussions would continue in future also, Mr. Singh said, adding that the two countries are also to hold discussion on the Saptakoshi project.
Foreign Secretary Thapa, on the occasion, said the bilateral talks held in two phases covered every aspect of Indo-Nepal relationship and that the talks were very fruitful and successful.
