India approves MLA agreement with Nepal

The Indian government on Thursday has approved the signing of an agreement between India and Nepal on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and also for ratifying it.

The agreement provides for effective cooperation between the two countries in the matters of investigation, prosecution and suppression of crimes, reports said quoting Information and Broadcasting Minister of India S Jaipal Reddy.

India has signed similar agreements or treaties with the United Kingdom, Canada, Russian Federation, Switzerland, Turkey, France, Kyrghyzstan, Kazhakhstan and USA, among others, reports said.

Nepal and India had earlier agreed to update five-decade-old extradition treaty between the two countries.
