Increasing violence will endanger system: Nepal

Biratnagar, June 20: CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal has warned that the increasing rate of violent activities in the country and indifference on part of the government would create a crisis and endanger the multi-party system.

Mr Nepal was giving a lecture on CPN-UML’s policy and principles, and the responsibility of the literary persons as part of the five-day eastern regional training camp of leftist litterary persons here today.

Mr Nepal said the voilent activities of the Maoists has become a major obstacle in the communist movement of Nepal.

Referring to the efforts are being made to tarnish the political image of CPN-UML which has been well established among the masses, Mr Nepal said that literary persons involved in 
progressive writing should be active in promoting the progressive mandate for building a new society.

Critic Narendra Chapagain, Prof. Bhanubhakta Pokherel, former president of the Progressive Writers Association Govinda Bhatta, chairman of Morang DDC Khadga Basnet, chief district officer Tulasi Prasad Bhattarai, Om Koirala of the Federation of Trade Unions, deputy mayor of Biratnagar Sub-Metropolitan City Ramesh Chandra Poudel and others also expressed their views on the occasion.

The training camp participated in by 40 leftist literary persons of the eastern region was inaugurated by CPN-UML standing committee member Modanath Prashrit yesterday.

Meanwhile, CPN-UML general secretary Nepal said that the Nepali Congress government constituted with the commitment of maintaining law and order and eliminating corruption and inconsistencies in the country has failed to provide relief to the people.

Speaking to local journalists here today, Mr Nepal expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation and worsening financial condition of the country.

He alleged that the government, instead of finding the real culprits and taking action against them, was victimising the CPN-UML activists with vengeance.

No one including the businessmen, employees and people were satisfied with the budget presented by the government and every Nepalese sector was getting worse due to the pressure exerted by the foreigners, Mr Nepal said, adding the government was not serious in this matter.
