Over 225 schools in eastern Ilam district have been closed down since two weeks following warning from the Maoists.
The rebels issued threats accusing the government of escaping from its responsibility by handing over the management of schools to the community, according to Kantipur daily. 227 out of the total 387 public schools in Ilam have already been handed over to communities.
A teacher of Bidupani Secondary School in Puwamajhuwa VDC said, “Situation has turned very difficult for us to run the classes after the Maoists issued threats.”
More than 25000 students have been deprived of education due the closure of schools while teachers said they were in a state of confusion. Private schools in the district remain closed for quite some time.
