The House of Representatives, Lower House of Parliament, Wednesday passed by majority a Bill concerning the formation of Nationalities Council.
Some leftist groups opposed the Bill describing it as inadequate for the development of nationalities. The House approved the Bill incorporating some amendments put forth by the main opposition party CPN-UML.
The House rejected the amendment proposal put forth by Pari Thapa, lawmaker of National People’s Front, one of the radical communist groups.
The Bill seeks to constitute a high level body to work for the development of different nationalities in Nepal.
The Bill was presented following the assurance of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to constitute a national council for the development of nationalities.
