The Home Ministry Tuesday transferred 19 chief district officers and officers at the joint secretary level to different districts, Home Ministry sources said.

Those transferred include Narayan Gopal Malego, chief district officer of Kathmandu. Laxmi Prasad Adhikari, who was in the same post at Malego in Dhanusa has been called to replace him.

Similarly, Director General of the Immigration Department Ananda Pokhrel has been transferred to take up the post of Chief District officer in Bardia district. Pokhrel is being replaced by Subarna Lal Shrestha, joint secretary at the Ministry.

It has been an established tradition transfer civil servants every time there is a change in the government. The frequent transfer of officials has had adverse impact in the overall functioning of the bureaucracy.
