NCCN demands guarantee of religious freedom in interim constitution – brief
National Council of Churches of Nepal (NCCN) has demanded to guarantee full religious freedom in the interim constitution.
A memorandum, submitted by the Council to the Interim Constitution Drafting Committee has demanded to dissolve the incumbent parliament and form an interim legislature with representation from all sectors to go for the election of the constituent assembly.
The council has asked for the management of the Nepal Army and the People’s Liberation Army of Maoists to create fearless environment for the election of the constituent assembly and provide power to constituent assembly to decide the fate of monarchy and to decide about the restructuring of the state.
The Council also demanded federal structure of the state and to guarantee participation of all sectors in the election of the constituent assembly.
The council has also said that there should be the provision of adopting the interim constitution after endorsing it from a broad political conference.
A team led by former Justice of the Supreme Court Laxman Aryal is drafting a new constitution to bring the Maoists into the mainstream of politics and to go for the election of the constituent assembly.
