The Special court Friday began the hearing on the corruption charges against former communication minister Jaya Prakash Prasad Gupta. Gupta has been charged of irregularities while awarding license to Kantipur Television.
The CIAA prosecutors Nanda Bahadur Subedi and Prakash Dhungana completed their pleadings Friday afternoon. Yuba Raj Subedi will continue his pleading Monday. Subedi claimed that Gupta had resorted to irregularities by returning the bid bond to Kantipur television before the due date.
He said Gupta had also tampered with the regulations time and again in order to create the congenial atmosphere for awarding the license to Kantipur television. The CIAA has also filed a case against the Managing Director of Kantipur Television on charges of irregularities while obtaining the license for
terrestrial television.
Meanwhile the Special Court completed its interrogation of former Minister Khum Khadka who has been charged of corruption in the Bakraha River Control Project. The court also continued the interrogation of two other civil servants Narayan Bahadur Thapa and Amodananda Mishra who were also implicated in the Baraha case.
It is learnt that under secretary at the Finance Ministry Sarad Kanta Adhikari has been released on bail after depositing Rs 1.388 million. He was in judicial custody for the last four months. Adhikari was being prosecuted for amassing wealth through illegal means.
