Government will not immediately press murder charges against four Maoists arrested after the January 26 murders of IGP of the Armed Police Krishna Mohan Shrestha, his wife, Nudup, and bodyguard Surya Bahadur Regmi, newspapers reported quoting government sources. Monday is the last day for filing the charges 60 days after their arrest.

Government was preparing to register murder cases against Krishnahari Sainju, Sita Karranjit, Hari and Kamal Bista Friday at the Patan Appellate Court. Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand intervened before the charges were filed as Maoists demanded the withdrawal of criminal charges

against Chief Rebel Negotiator Dr. Baburam Bhattarai at the same court as a pre-condition for peace talks to start.

Dr. Bhattarai has accepted Maoist responsibility for the high profile murders. Chief Government Negotiator Col. Narayan Singh Pun has invited reluctant Maoists to sit down for goodwill talks Monday.
