The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture have kept their officials on high alert on the spreading swine flu that killed around 80 people in Mexico and has recently been detected in New Zealand, Israel and United States.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) made an international call on Saturday to stay on high alert on the deadly swine flu outbreak terming it as a public health emergency of ‘pandemic potential’.

The two ministries have called for a meeting of the Technical Subcommittee on Avian Influenza later today to keep vigil on transportation of animals, specially pork and step up quarantine measures to be taken at the international airport. nepalnews.com Apr 27 09
