The government Friday produced a charge-sheet against Gagan Kumar Thapa, former general secretary of Nepal Students Union, before the Special Court as per the clause 4 (1) of the Offence against the State-2046 B.S, demanding three-year jail term and Rs 3000 fine.

The case that accuses Thapa of sedition – for chanting slogans against the institution of monarchy – will be filed on Sunday, it is learnt.

This is for the second time that the government is prosecuting Thapa for sedition. Two years ago, the government had prosecuted him and another student leader, Guru Raj Ghimire, on a similar charge. The government had later withdrawn the charges owing to widespread criticism.
