The government has urged the agitating businessmen for talks to resolve the problems facing the business sector.

Tuesday’s meeting of the council of ministers appealed to the businessmen to come to the table to discuss their demands.

The meeting also asked the Home Minister to listen to the demands of businessmen and to provide security to their businesses.

Businessmen have called indefinite general strike from Monday protesting the Maoist excesses and demanding security.

During the cabinet meeting, some ministers expressed reservation over the Maoists’ act of threat and intimidation even after joining the parliamentary politics, sources said.

The ministers said the Maoists must change their behaviour before joining the interim government.

Responding to the comments of the cabinet members, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala said he would discuss the issue of the manhandling of a businessman in Kathmandu on Sunday night with Maoist chairman Prachanda.

The meeting also decided to form the Electoral Constituency Delineation Commission headed by a former Justice of the Supreme Court.

The meeting proposed some names for the commission and also decided to publicise the names of the chairman and other members in the afternoon after consultations.

Previous cabinet meeting had proposed the name of former Supreme Court justice Ram Nagina Singh for the post but Singh refused to accept the post saying he was not asked while being nominated.

The cabinet also decided to immediately form a Maoist-included interim government and promulgate laws necessary for holding election to the constituent assembly.

According to a Baluwatar source, the meeting directed Home Minister Sitaula to make necessary security arrangements for holding CA polls by mid June.
