Govt frees 124 Maoist detainees

The government freed altogether 124 Maoists detained in various jails around the country on Tuesday.

Home Ministry spokesperson Baman Prasad Neupane informed Nepalnews that 61 Maoists detained in Nakkhu Jail in Lalitpur were freed today while 52 Maoist detainees were freed in Kaski district.

Similarly, seven Maoist detainees were freed in Rupandehi and four others in Mahottari district today. They were released after the government on Monday decided to withdraw all cases filed against Maoists under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Control and Punishment) Ordinance (TADO).

Neupane said the exact number of Maoist detainee would become clear only when the government attorneys inform about the cases filed under TADO.

“The process to release all those e detained under the TADO has begun,” he said.

Meanwhile, reports have said that all Maoist detainees would be released by the time the second round of government-Maoist talks start.
