With the government facing criticism for not forming a complete talks team to negotiate with the Maoists, Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula said on Wednesday the government would soon form its team to hold peace talks with the Maoists.

The government has appointed Home Minister as the coordinator for the preliminary rounds of talks with the Maoists while other members of the team are yet to be announced.

After a meeting of the Talks Support and Suggestion Committee, Sitaula said the government would form its talks team “very soon”, but he did not say when.

The government team headed by Home Minister Krishna Sitaula is sitting for dialogue with the Krishna Bahadur Mahara-led negotiating team of the Maoists.

The cabinet meeting is also finalizing the code of conduct and sending it to the Maoists for immediate enforcement.

The rebels had already proposed a draft code of conduct, which was under government consideration.

The peace coordinating committee of nine major parties in the House gave final touches to the code of conduct, which among other things restricts the rebels from carrying out armed activities, extortion and intimidation while the government is obliged to release detained Maoists.
