Speaking at a program in the capital organized to mark the 57th International Human Rights Day on Saturday, VC Bista said that the government has been implementing the recommendations made by the NHRC, which is dedicated to make the human rights a respectable issue and has been monitoring rights violation.
“Having signed 16 different international conventions on human rights, Nepal has shown a strong commitment to the international efforts in protecting and promoting human rights,” he said.
He further said that the government was avoiding the state of impunity by giving punishment to those including security personnel who have been involved in rights violation.
Despite different challenges due to the insurgency, the government was seriously working by coordinating with the United Nations to get significant achievement in the protection of the rights, he said.
The government has established the Human Rights Promotion Centre at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers to coordinate among all human rights agencies of the government and make the human rights activities more effective, he said adding, “The government has formed a high level national coordination committee to guide the government in the policy level for the protection and promotion of the human rights.”
