Kathmandu, Nov.13: Talks between the government and the opposition to reduce the price of kerosene and call off protest strikes ahead of a major conservation meet in the capital  ended Monday without an agreement.

Communist opposition and the Rashtriya Prajatantra party did  not agree to a government proposal to reduce the price of kerosene by Rs.2 to Rs..24 per liter, sources close to the talks said. The government decision to hike prices of petroleum products last month triggered prolonged protests nation-wide.

The opposition and the government held two rounds of inconclusive talks Sunday and Monday.

Deputy Prime Minister Ram Chandra Paudel has been negotiating on behalf of the government with the opposition. Nine left parties have called a two-day nation-wide strike Thursday and Friday protesting  the price hikes.

Britain’s Prince Philip  and other conservationists are attending an annual conference of the World Wildlife Fund beginning Tuesday in the Nepali capital. nepalnews.com.br
