Government extends deadline of high-level probe commission

The government has extended the tenure of the High Level Probe Commission formed to probe the atrocities committed to suppress pro-democracy movement of the country by one month.

The commission had asked the government for 45 more days to complete the assigned task.

Officials at the Commission said they would work to complete the report within a month.

The Commission, in course of its investigation has interrogated 217 people so far.

According to officials, the commission is mulling to interrogate the King as the Chief of the erstwhile royal government for his role in suppressing the movement, as members of the then government said that the cabinet should jointly take responsibility for the suppression.

The commission is mulling to send questionnaires to the King for his role in suppression of the April movement.

At least 25 people were killed and hundreds injured during the pro-democracy movement of the country.
