Syangja, May 8: Deputy Prime Minister Ram Chandra Poudel said that the present Nepali Congress government has introduced public welfare programmes such as the “B.P. Among the Poor” and the “Women Awareness and Income Generating Programmes” for the economic uplift of the backward communities, rural development and making the underprivileged section of the society important partners of the national development process.
Addressing a mass meeting organised by the Nepali Congress Kalikot Village Committee in Dumre Bhanjyang, Syangja district on Sunday, Deputy Prime Minister Poudel said the Nepali Congress government would make adequate budgetary allocations for construction of the Waling-Hubas road and carrying out the survey works for a concrete bridge over the Andhikhola River.
He said neither development could be realised nor a civilised society built in the absence of pure politics charecterised by sincerity of purpose and a sense of service.
Therefore, the people should the mselves judge what kind of politics to choose to correct the present deviant politics, he added.
He expressed the view that the struggle for democracy was not guided by the sole motive of politics for politics’ sake or to usurp political power and play political games.
Instead it is a campaign to protect the political ,economic and social rights of the people, he said.
At the programme presided over by Nepali Congress Kalikot Village Committee president Bal Bahadur Gurung, MPs Gopal Man Shrestha, Shankar Pandey, Dilli Raj Sharma and Tanka Prasad Sharma Kandel spoke on the importance of forging a national consensus on issues of development and public concern.
Deputy Prime Minister Poudel also inspected the under construction Waling-Hubas road Saturday.
The Waling-Hubas road is being constructed with the joint cooperation of the Ministry of Local Development, the Ministry of Physical Planning, Works and Transport and the World Food Programme.
