A sub-committee of Parliamentary Public Account Committee (PAC) has directed the government to furnish details of the expenditure of the Royal Commission for Corruption Control (RCCC).
Coordinator of the sub-committee, Ishwor Pokhrel told the lawmakers that the government has been asked to provide the rationale and details of the expenditures made by the dissolved commission.
The parliamentary sub-committee also discussed the arrears pertaining to the Home Ministry.
Secretary at the Home Ministry, Umesh Kanta Mainali informed the sub-committee that more than 1.12 billion rupees have been spent in chartering helicopters over the last eight years, according to reports.
“According to the current rules, the Home Ministry can only spend Rs 20 million to take helicopter on lease for providing relief during natural calamities and during the necessary job for maintaining law and order,” Mainali told the sub-committee members.
He added that more than ten million rupees had been spent on the discretion of the then Home Minister of the royal regime Kamal Thapa.
“The ministry spent over Rs 110.1 million as additional amount to provide relief for families of those killed by Maoists and the families of policemen killed in action even as only over Rs 55 million was allocated for the same in the beginning, which is one of the factors for Home Ministry having a large amount of unaudited expenditure,” Mainali appraised the sub-committee members.
MP Pokhrel said that the Home Ministry should not keep a lot of outstanding dues and unaudited expenditures in the name of sensitive issues.
