The traditional Ghode Jatra festival was observed amidst a ceremony at Tundikhel, Kathmandu, on Sunday.
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala attended the Ghode Jatra ceremony as the chief guest. It was for the first time a Prime Minister replaced the King as the chair of Ghode Jatra ceremony.
The main attraction of the Ghode Jatra ceremony was the military parade, horse race and group tent-pegging by Nepali Army personnel.
Hundreds of people thronged around Tundikhel to watch the Ghode Jatra ceremony. A public holiday was observed in the Kathmandu Valley on the occasion of Ghode Jatra.
