KATHMANDU: Seven Frenchmen and two sherpa guides scaled the 7678 meters high Makalu II on October 22 through the normal route, the Ministry of Tourism said Friday quoting a delayed message from base camp.

Leader of the eight-member team Jean Annequin, 31, Ludovic Challeat, 32, Christian Carpentier, 45, Nicholas Hohn, 27, Jacques Debrueres, 57, Gerard Vuillemin, 26, and Michel Bardou, 41, climbed the east Nepal peak.

They were assisted to the top by Pemba Sherpa, 28, and Lhakpa Rita Sherpa, 30. The current autumn climbing season in the Nepal Himalaya ends Nov.15.
