More than 2,500 people benefited from a health camp organized in Marpha of the remote district of Mustang from 13-18 May 2006.
A team of Nepalese and American doctors, surgeons, and nurses provided free health service to 2,500 people of the district.
The doctors provided services like general medicine, orthopedics, dermatology, ENT, Gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics, dentistry and ophthalmology.
According to the organizers, 70 operations were performed in general surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, orthopedics, and gynaecology.
“I am very happy to have my vision back and I am able to walk home on my own today while I had to be carried by my family yesterday,” said a 69-year-old man who was returning to his village after cataract surgery at the free health camp in Marpha.
Director of the health camp, Dr KP Singh and Dr Subarna Mani Acharya, of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, thanked the residents of Marpha for their assistance to conduct the health camp.
Speaking on behalf of the joint Nepalese-American team, Jack Starmer of HealthCare Nepal expressed satisfaction over the successful completion of the health camp.
