Four policemen were injured, one seriously, in an ambush laid by Maoists at Lilakharka in Taplejung Sunday at 1.30 PM, local security officials said. The seriously inured policeman was immediately evacuated to Kathmandu for treatment.

Security personnel were not injured Sunday when rebels set off a land mine near district headquarters Manthali in Ramechap, local security officials said. Security forces defused three out of four pressure cooker bombs planted near district headquarters.

A woman rebel was shot dead at Tikapur in Kailali Saturday when she attempted to hurl a socket bomb on a police patrol, police said. Makwanpur district rebel commander Rudra Bahadur Pakhrin alias Ramesh was shot dead Sunday morning during a search, police said.

Maoists Sunday set off two bombs and opened fire at a regional meting of the CPN-UML at Huruwa in Dang, local party officials said. Programme organizer Manohar Budhathoki was injured in the attack as the rebels shred to pieces pictures of international communist leaders.

The number of casualties in a four hour shoot-out between the army and rebels at Sattar village in Accham district Saturday was not known, local security officials said.
