The foundation stone for the Second Goal Project was laid Wednesday amidst a special ceremony at Chyasal ward No: 9 of Lalitpur sub-metropolitan city. The goal project was conceived and launched by Joe Havalange, the then FIFA president for the development of soccer in the developing world.

Nepal was the first nation in South Asia to get the goal project. The second goal project was delayed by two years because of the infighting between the two different football associations that emerged in Nepal. Ganesh Thapa, former President of the All Nepal National Football Association (ANFA) had first negotiated the goal project.

Thapa proceeded with the goal project seeking the cooperation of the former Mayor of Lalitpur Buddhi Raj Bajracharya. Thapa signed a 15-year contract to build the goal project-training center with the help of the Chyasal Club.

The first goal project was launched in Dharan two weeks back while the third one is in the offing in Butwal. Minister for Education and Sports Devi Prasad Ojha laid the foundation of the second goal project. nepalnews.com am Nov 28
