Security forces destroyed a ‘major bomb factory’ of the Maoist insurgents at Chaulim area of Devitar VDC in Chitwan district Saturday, reports said Sunday.
Quoting the Directorate of Public Relations (DPR) of the Royal Nepalese Army, the state-owned Radio Nepal said the security forces – tipped off by the local people – had launched a major offensive in the area yesterday. The rebels were manufacturing socket bombs and other improvised explosive devices to unleash violence in Chitwan, Gorkha and the surrounding districts.
Over 2000 socket bombs, roadside bombs and materials used in manufacturing and detonating explosives, foodstuff, combat dresses and utensils were seized during the raid, according to the report.
In a similar raid on Saturday, the security forces seized 100-quintal rice and 43-quintal salt stored by the Maoists at Kabeli area of Paanchthar district. The rebels had looted the rice and salt from Khahare area along the Mechi Highway recently, reports said.
Meanwhile, two Maoist insurgents were killed in a security operation at the Babiyabirta area of Morang district on Saturday, a press release from the DPR said on Sunday. The killed insurgents have been identified as Rajendra Sharma and Darpana a.k.a. ‘Kalapana’, the release added.
Security forces have recovered a pistol, socket bombs, some cash and ‘terrorist documents’ from the dead Maoists, according to the release.
