The Subarna Shumsher Education Foundation (SSEF) is organizing a knock-out-football tournament involving eight “A” Division Clubs at the Dasrath Stadium from September 12-21.
The tournament is viewed as a tune-up for the participating clubs, but four top flight clubs have rejected the proposal citing financial problems. Among fourteen “A” Division clubs, League Champions Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC), Nabil Three Star Club (NTSC), Ranipokhari Corner Team Club (RCT), Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC), APF, Friends Club (FC), Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC), Sankata Club (SC) and newly promoted Saraswati Club (SC) are vying for the two hundred thousand cash while the runners-up team will bag one hundred thousand.
The two losing semifinalists will also receive 25,000 each while man of the match of each match will also get handsome prizes. In addition, the organizer will also provide match fee of 5, 7 and 10 thousand in respective rounds.
While not listed in the ANFA calendar, SSEF stepped up to organize the tournament to seek the platform to popularize former politician and late minister Subarna Shumsher Rana. “We have chosen football as the best way to go to the youths to let them know about Subarna Shumsher Rana,” Foundation President Dhruba Khadka told reporters.
The participating Clubs have expressed enthusiasm about the tourney taking it as a tune-up before the League Championship.
