The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), an umbrella organization of working journalists has decided to launch a movement for the reappointment of those media persons who were sacked after the February 1 royal takeover.

After a meeting with the victimised journalists, the FNJ said that it would form a team to investigate the issue of Metro FM and some other publishing houses where the management had taken action against their employees for being pro-democracy, during the king’s rule.

Addressing the meeting, FNJ general secretary Mahendra Bista said that the federation will fight for the implementation of the Working Journalists’ Act with some necessary amendments.

Neha Sharma of Metro FM and Narayan Kilambu of Bhaktapur FM said their management virtually sacked them after the king’s direct rule and did not provide them the minimum facilities for being employed in their institutions.

Meahwhile, the FNJ also held a meeting of the newspapers published from different districts.

Various media persons related with the newspapers and other media, which either collapsed or suffered due to the political change, said they needed the support of the FNJ in the changed context.

Officials of the FNJ said they would probe into the various cases and discuss with the government to provide an appropriate solution to the victimised persons and institutions.
