Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has demanded that the government waive the license renewal fee of the FM radio stations, both operating and those that have received license and are waiting to start operation.

In a statement Tuesday, FNJ also asked the government to scrap the 4 percent royalty charged to the FM radios.

According to existing rules, the FM radios have to pay 4 percent of their total income to the government as royalty annually.

The FNJ further demanded doubling the welfare advertisement to newspapers and taking initiatives for promotion of local newspapers outside the capital. Likewise, it also demanded concessions on telephone and import of electronic goods and vehicles.

FNJ has expressed concern over the dismissal of journalists from government media houses on the grounds of their ideological differences. The umbralla body of journalists also asked the government to address the demands of working journalists for job security through the upcoming budget.

Radio journalists met with Information and Communication Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Monday and Finance Minister today demanding more facilities to the FM radio stations.
