The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) has expressed dissatisfaction over the structure of the recently formed High-level Media Recommendation Commission and asked the government to reconstitute it.

Tuesday’s central committee meeting of the FNJ concluded that the commission can work in an impartial manner only after the reconstitution and demanded that experts be appointed in the commission.

FNJ expressed objection over appointment of some of the journalists taking money from the royal government in the commission.

The meeting also decided to suspend Yubaraj Bidrohi and Hari Mandal, presidents of the Kathmandu and Mahottari chapters respectively of the FNJ.

Meanwhile, the meeting also urged the Ministry of Information and Communications to provide all documents on allowances provided by the previous government.

The meeting also decided to suspend membership and initiate action against those journalists found guilty of receiving financial rewards on an individual and institutional basis, the FNJ said in a press release.

Meanwhile, Online Media Association Nepal (OMAN) has expressed dissatisfaction over the formation of High-level Media Recommendation Commission, saying the commission does not have any representatives of Online Media.

A press statement issued by the OMAN said, “The formulation of Media Council is positive but the lack of representation from all sectors has left room for various doubts.”

The OMAN also demanded its compulsory representation in the process of the formulation or modification of rules, regulations and mechanism for media, information and technology.
