The Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) has called on the CPN (Maoist) to withdraw the indefinite blockades imposed on highways and some district headquarters.
Organising a press conference Thursday, the FNCCI said the frequent blockades were taking a heavy toll on the national economy while the supplies have been disrupted and the business environment seriously dented.
“We request the Maoists to immediately call off the blockades. We also urge the government to ensure security to the properties of businessmen,” said Chandi Raj Dhakal, first vice-president, FNCCI. According to him, the blockades called by the Maoists were forcing the traders and suppliers to pull their shutters down.
Speaking at the press meet, industrialist Pradeep Shrestha said, “If this situation continues, a complete industrial ruin will not be long in the coming.” He demanded that the government provide full security in the business ventures along with compensation for losses caused by the blockades.
Rabi Bhakta Shrestha, former president of the FNCCI said both the government and the Maoists were not serious over the problems facing people. He said the government should provide security to the business ventures in return to the tax paid.
The Maoists have announced indefinite blockade along the Prithivi Highway and Tribhuvan Rajpath that link the capital city with the districts. The rebels have been also announced blockades in some of the district including that of Bara, Rautahat and Shindhupalchowk.
