Finance Minister (FM) Dr Ram Sharan Mahat has appealed to Indian businessmen to invest in Nepal in the light of the fast improving political scenario.
Addressing a conference of Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) on Thursday in New Delhi, Dr Mahat said, “The climate is fast changing. There is no reason why you should now keep away from investing in Nepal.”
Indian and Nepalese businessmen also expressed hope for larger Indian investment in Nepal once the peace is restored in here.
Mahat also met Indian Finance Minister P Chidambaram and urged to waive every kind of taxes on Nepalese exports to India.
Reports said that Chidambaram agreed to bring any applicable duty down to 1 percent on all kind of goods except that which are agro-products made wholly in Nepal.
Mahat and Gopal Man Shrestha are scheduled to meet Indian Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel on Friday to leverage for lift of restrictions imposed on air seats between Nepal and India.
Officials of Confederation of Nepalese Industry (CNI) and Federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) are lobbying in the Indian capital to have the Indian side scrap arrangements which deter the growth of the Nepali businesses and manufacturing units. nepalnews.com ia June 09 06
