Flood hits Biratnagar

Biratnagar, June 28: Loss amounting to millions of rupees has been caused after the diversion of the Biratnagar-Rangeli Road was washed away by the floods caused by torrential rains since the past few days triggering the haltage of traffic along the road.

Damages amounting to Rs 6,000,000 has been caused as the diversions of the Chisang Cheka, Bhaluwa and Judi rivers were washed away by the floods, according to the No. 3 Division Road Office, Biratnagar.

It is estimated that indirect loss of an equal amount has been incurred.

The floods has washed away seven culverts along the 22 km portion of the road and the people of most of the VDCs in Constituency No. 1 have been deprived of transport facilities to Biratnagar for the last four days causing adverse effect in business.

As transport services along the road came to a standstill, buses were plying upto new market of Katahari east of Biratnagar, according to Morang District Police Office Oolice Inspector Durga Kunwar. Works are being carried out to clear the diversion to resume transport services, according to No. 3 division office of the Department of Roads.
