Five parties announce fresh protest programs

Five agitating political parties have announced a serious of protest programs beginning January 30. The new set of programs were made public this evening after a meeting of top leaders of the five-party alliance held at CPN-UML’s central office at Balkhu.

Talking to reporters, Bharat Mohan Adhikari, Standing Committee member of the UML informed that the parties have decided to kick-start anti-regression rallies coinciding with the Martyr’s Day on January 30. Likewise, on February 7, nationwide processions will be staged wherein central leaders of the parties will join in. Similar protests will be organized in different parts of the country on February 12 and 19.

Top leaders of Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Nepal Workers’ and Peasants’ Party, United People’s Front and Nepal Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) were present at the meeting.

Today’s five-party meet also extended support to the ongoing movement of the students, denouncing the police action in their peaceful rallies. “The government has resorted to intimidation but that is not going stop the movement,” said Adhikari.
